If semen is to be shipped to you it is very important that it is put in the female immediately!!! Cold sperm does not last as long as fresh. Sperm can only be kept cooled for 24 hours so I will mail it to you next day priority express...
First step is to make sure your female is at the right time in her cycle... To do this take your bitch to the vet for a cytologic test. He can look at her discharge under a microscope to get an idea of when the best days to breed her are. It can be difficult on just going on your own guess since a female can bleed on and off through out her whole heat cycle even when she is ready to breed. You may even want to take her in one last time on the day before the vet said she would be ready so he can look at the discharge cells one last time to make sure his dates were correct.
Let us know asap when your female is ready and the day before her first heat day I will extract semen and will ship it over night and you can call me when you get it and I can talk you through inseminating your female yourself or you can have your vet do it for you. I prefer if you have never done it before to have your vet do it while you watch the first time, but that is up to you and I can talk you through it over the phone if needed.
I will send you sperm on day 1,3,and 5 of the fertile week and as soon as you receive the sperm it should be placed in the female: Call me as soon as you get it or call your vet. There are many different options on inserting the sperm and of course the quickest and easiest is the vaginal method. You can talk with your vet on which is the best option for your female.

1. Make sure female is in the right time to be bred, by talking to me or your vet, and call me so I know when to ship the sperm to you or when you want to bring your female here for me to do it for you in person.
2. If sperm is shipped to you it needs to be placed in the female asap, warming is NOT needed. Warming sperm only makes them loose all their energy so PUT IN FEMALE WHILE STILL COLD.
3. Let your female go potty first so she is not wanting to potty right after you are done. Elevate the hind legs of the female without placing any pressure on her abdomen. I put my girl's back feet on a couple of phone books or use the stairs so her head is lower than her rear. It is best if she stays in this, (head lower), standing mode for at least a few minutes after you release the sperm in her.
4. With gloves on take the sperm vial out of the package. Collect the sperm into the syringe but be very gentle with it. Also pull a little bit of air into the syringe so no sperm is left in the tubing and waisted. Put a tiny bit of KY on the sides so it slips in easily. Look inside your female's slightly swollen opening and you will see her pee hole as well as her vagina hole. Keep in mind the sperm needs to be placed in the vagina hole which is the one closest to the rectum. Remember there are two holes inside the swollen opening so make sure you are placing the tube in the right one. Slowly insert the tube until it can not go any farther. I can also send an extender tube for larger females...
5. Once the tube is inserted you can push the plunger on the tube gently which will deposit the sperm inside. Leave the tube in for at least 5 minutes and keep your female in this position 10 minutes after you pull the syringe out. Some breeders will place a finger into the vagina at this time to massage just in the opening until the female starts muscle contractions that helps the sperm get deeper inside... I have only done this a couple of times and have not seen any difference in using this technique myself...
6. Put your female directly into a crate for two hours so no sperm is lost and do not allow her to potty until the two hours are up.
7. Fertility is guaranteed up to half the cost of the stud fee, and if no puppies develop then second AI is free on her next heat until she does become pregnant. I will be happy to try four different heats if needed to get puppies for you or you are eligible for a refund of half the stud fee. I also do AI myself, in person if needed or wanted, of coarse the natural way is best, and AI done immediately after collection is more long lived then cooled, shipped sperm...
