Where can I use the Potty Park? Anywhere! You can use it in your home, or anywhere else where you want to designate a spot for your dog to potty... How clean is the Potty Park? Very! It is made with a material and weave that draws any moisture directly down into the reservoir and so several dogs can use the same Potty Park one after the other and their paws will not get wet at all. The weave also keeps the smell of the urine inside the reservoir and you do not smell anything. You just need to pick up any solid poop when needed, and empty the reservoir of any urine into your toilet at the end of the day. It is that simple... You also do not have to worry about mold or bacteria because of the antibacterial and antimicrobial properties of the materials...
What if it gets dirty? Well every day when you empty the Potty Park reservoir you should also pour clean water through the top to filter out any remaining debris... You can even spray down with a hose if you want to... I also use white vinegar and water to clean it for the puppies since that is a naturally mild cleaning agent... It will dry immediately because of the intricate weave design. Will my dog learn to potty in real grass outside after using the Potty Park? YES! The design of the Potty Park is to simulate using the restroom in real grass. This is much better than a puppy that has been pee pad trained since he would not know what real grass is let alone that it is where you want him to potty... It is very easy to have your puppy both use the Potty Park and also go Potty outside when needed.
What about my dog hiking his leg? Well you can also get an attached shield that goes around the potty park that allows your dog to hike his leg and not make a mess on your walls. Just ask the customer service rep about the splash guard. I have noticed most small breed males do not even hike their leg until they are at least a year old if ever, and if you get your puppy fixed at a young age he may never hike his leg at all.
The Potty Park is very affordable and you will never have to buy anything such as disposable puppy pads that just don't work, or industrial cleaners to clean up after your pet ever again. Some things to remember when setting up the Potty Park for the first time for your new puppy:
Place the Potty Park where you would like your dog(s) to go toilet on a consistent basis. At first keep the Potty Park in an enclosed area such as a dog exercise pen or a small bathroom. A place with a linoleum floor is best in case of an accident. Keep puppy in this area with the Potty Park until he is use to using it in your home. Remember also to keep puppy's food, sleeping area, away from the Potty Park but still always available to him/her during this transition period. Do not let your new puppy wonder all over your house but have him/her always insight of the Potty Park so he/she knows where to go potty until he/she is going to it and you have not seen any accidents for at least a week. After this time you can expand the puppy's area in small increments until he/she has full run of the house. If he/she has an accident after you have given him more space then make the space smaller again until you do not see an accident for at least a week. Then you can expand the area a little again... In no time your puppy will be running free all through your house and you will not have to worry about your carpets or him/her getting hurt or stolen outside by himself/herself...
- Spray the synthetic grass surface with a few sprays of the training spray (use as directed). This training spray contains pheromones which naturally attract your dog and make them want to mark their scent with their own urine. This will rapidly speed up the training / familiarization process.
- Train your dog(s) to potty on command. When it’s time for your dog(s) to relieve themselves, place them or lead them to the Potty Park and use a consistent command such as “go potty” or “go pee” to teach your dog(s) to go on the Potty Park.
- If you’re training a new puppy, remember they may need a little extra help as they don’t have full control over their bladder yet. Puppies will need to relieve themselves after eating/drinking, sleeping and during times of excitement. For a sure fire way of getting your little pup use to the Potty Park, simply place them on the Potty Park as soon as they wake up when their bladders are full and tell them your potty command word. This will help associate the command & Potty Park unit with going potty.
- Make sure your dog(s) stays on the Potty Park until they have relieved themselves.
- As your dog(s) begin using Potty Park, remember to be encouraging and supportive when your dog(s) use Potty Park correctly. Treats or exaggerated praise are a great way to reward and encourage your dog(s) to continue using Potty Park. (Do not give a treat while dog is on the Potty Park, because dogs do not like to potty where they eat.) Remember your dog wants to please you let them know that using the Potty Park pleases you and they will continue to do so out of habit.
- If you see your dog(s) going elsewhere than the Potty Park, simply tell them NO and move them to the Potty Park. Catching them in the act works well. Just clap your hands and say NO and put them on the Potty Park immediately. You can also place his poop on the Potty Park for a few minutes so he knows that is where it goes.
- Make sure not to feed your dog(s) on or directly near the Potty Park, nor should you reward them with treats on the Potty Park as this will deter them from using the Potty Park as their toileting location.
- Do not allow or encourage your dog(s) to play or sleep on the Potty Park as this will deter them from correctly using the Potty Park as their toileting location.
- Please note that most puppies usually take to the Potty Park within their first week, while dogs 1+ years of age typically take 1 to 4 weeks to fully adjust to the Potty Park. Since your puppy is pre exposed to the Potty Park here at our home he/she should take right to it immediately, but it may take a few days for him to get the hang of it in your home since it is a new place and everything is so unfamiliar to him/her... Be patient with your new puppy and stick to it and he should get the hang of it again real soon.
- With very small puppies they may have issues with wanting to hop up on the Potty Park if it is new to them, but I assure you the smallest teacup puppy can get on it if they want to.
